Robin Horwath, Ontario Fur Managers Federation, with Simon Ward

Robin Horwath hails from Blind River, Ontario, where he continues a family tradition of trapping started by both his grandfathers. He started helping his father on the trapline at the age of 12, and got his first trapping license in 1981. He has held one ever since. In 1995 he became a director of the Blind River Trappers Council, and in 1996 studied to be a trapping instructor in Thunder Bay as part of a program run by the Ontario Fur Managers Federation and the Ministry of Natural Resources. As of 2021, he is general manager of the Ontario Fur Managers Federation, a position he has held since 2010. He is also the current chairman of the Fur Institute of Canada. “I am proud to have carried on my family’s way of life," he says. "I have followed in the footsteps of my grandfathers and father, joined by my brother and my son. And hopefully my two young grandsons will want to do the same in the future.”
